Senior/Staff Platform Engineer

I’m working with a remote-first, early-stage software company building a modern platform for financial modeling and business planning. They’re tackling complex data and infrastructure problems traditionally handled by spreadsheets, and replacing them with scalable, flexible systems designed for growing organizations.

As one of the early engineering hires, this role offers the opportunity to shape not just the product architecture, but also the company’s technical foundations, ways of working, and long-term engineering culture.

This is a fully remote position, you must be US-based and fully authorized to work in the US – visa sponsorship is not available.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and build core product features and backend infrastructure to support a rapidly growing customer base.
• Influence early architectural decisions, ensuring systems are scalable, flexible, and resilient as the platform evolves.
• Collaborate closely with product and design partners to plan and implement core functionality.
• Establish strong technical foundations that enable future product development and adaptability.
• Contribute to growing the engineering team by setting a high bar for technical excellence, ownership, and collaboration.
• Help shape engineering practices, development workflows, and DevOps approaches in an early-stage environment.

Key Qualifications:

• 5 – 15 years of professional backend engineering experience, with the ability to operate at a senior level from day one (staff-level experience a plus).
• Previous experience at a startup.
• CS degree from a top CS school
• Proficiency in Go, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript
• Proven experience designing and building robust, scalable backend systems in fast-paced environments.
• Strong ownership mindset with a track record of taking end-to-end responsibility for solving customer problems.
• High standards for code quality, system design, and maintainability; pride in craft is essential.
• Collaborative, inclusive approach with experience working cross-functionally to deliver customer impact.
• Bonus: experience leading teams on large web applications; strong Go experience; interest or background in DevOps and infrastructure; familiarity with Kubernetes and/or Google Cloud Platform.
