Our Interview with Anjana Suresh

What were your priorities when looking for a new role?

I was fascinated by the semiconductor industry and was looking for a role in which I could learn more about the manufacturing process.

Tell us about your career highlights – how you started and how you came to the position you’re in now.

I spent some time in process development in the bio-ethanol industry, but I had also spent some time in the operations of chemical supply to the semiconductor manufacturing facility. However, I wanted to be closer to manufacturing, so I was always looking to shift accordingly. I’m happy now to be working with gases and chemical supply in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?

I enjoy a good challenge and problem solving. My current role offers opportunities for both my interests, and it is dynamic so no two days at work are the same!

What crucial skill sets are required to succeed in your industry?

I think having a mind for engineering and technicalities really helps as the semiconductor industry is quite complex with a complicated supply chain. As far as soft skills are concerned, I think the ability to be assertive, think on your feet and stay calm in the face of pressure are the three top skills required in my industry.

What advice would you give to others who are looking to enter the tech industry?

I would say that there still exists a large demand for smart and hardworking individuals, so there are plenty of opportunities available. Just keep applying, networking and brush up your CV!

What can tech businesses do to attract and retain more female talent?

I think having a supportive work environment really helps. Tech businesses should understand that all change, even for the better, will require investment and accommodation. Talented women are more likely to stay in an environment where they feel safe to perform their best and grow as a professional.

How did your consultant and USA Tech Recruit help you with getting this role?

My consultant, Joey Ellis, helped me by making sure I was well-informed throughout the interviewing process and reassured me when I was doubtful of my fit for the current role.  He was supportive and encouraging throughout the journey.
